This position is for the 2012-13 school year. Interviews for these positions are held throughout the summer with start dates in early/mid August.
About the Organization: For more than 15 years, Playworks has leveraged the power of play at recess and throughout the school day to accelerate children's learning and improve school climate. In partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and AmeriCorps, Playworks currently serves more than 300 schools in 22 cities across the country, reaching 120,000 children daily. Principals and teachers tell us as a result of having Playworks on their campus, kids are more active, bullying, fights and injuries significantly decrease, and students return to the classroom focused and ready to learn.
About AmeriCorps: AmeriCorps is national movement of "service." It's a chance to apply your skills and ideals toward helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. It is an opportunity to make a big difference in your life and in the lives of those around you. About the Position: Our AmeriCorps member position or "Coach" is a full-time position bringing healthy play and physical activity to low-income schools to create a positive environment for learning and teaching. Members are trained and placed at an urban elementary school to run Playworks' physical activity program focused on teaching and organizing safe and inclusive games before, during and after school.
